I am going to mount a ceiling fixture in my pantry and found that there is not box!...just wire hanging out of drywall..

I need box I know that..a stud is only 2 inches away...rough measurement with my finger stuck in the hole!

So what do I do? Light fixture will weight round 4 lbs..I heard of pancake box, but do I need to secure it to the stud? Dont want thing crashing down!

TIA

Assuming there is no access above the ceiling to mount a box to the ceiling joist, you can use an Old Work Box.

yep, of course there is no access! I will do that!..also the vanity wires sticking out of drywall have no boxes in both the main floor bathrooms..same suggestion?

I cant believe this! this is a new house! spent 2 weeks trying to figure out why I could not complete the circuit for the plugs in the master bed room and pantry areas...finally figured out that they had buried the plugs and the vanity wire with the drywall....got good at patching drywall!
