A friend of mine sent me this photo yesterday and I about fell off of my chair (see photo). I have to give the "installer" credit for having the cojones to screw into the service cable although I have to take points off for not wrapping the wire around the screw in the clockwise direction. In fairness however, I give extra points for including the wire nut so that the HO has a means to switch the circuit off if necessary. Not too sure about the overcurrent coordination however.

Enjoy!

When I saw the floor refinish guys with 220v sanders tap into the main panel, I thought that was interesting.
Saw that myself once when a crew came out to do some punchlist work for a new construction home that we bought. Thought about how interesting it would be if the motor developed a fault or they ran over the cord. They had a set of automotive jumper cables spliced to the cord.

I believe the original was form ASHI journal and was widely seen as part of a series on the "this old house " we site series on bizarre things found during home inspections. There are some other bizarre findings in the article. Whether are embellished or not some are quite funny and others give me good reason to insist i only have qualified people work in my home and I am DIYing and I don't know how, I ask or call in a pro. Anyway the column and photos can provide a couple of ours o mindless entertainment
