Thanks , it's tacked about 8" away.
I know that you cannot span joist to joist with NM because of the danger that someone uses it to hang something on. that's the issue that I'm concerned with from a code compliance perspective.

You can add an extension ring on that junction box to accommodate the extra wires.

Thanks all,

Once I started folding them in, there will be plenty of room. I just need to be systematic with the layering of wires.
The box is 42^3", the wires total 39.75; technically, I can fit one more conductor.

That's what I thought Clutch was trying to avoid. Sure, you could hang your fur coat off that, but common sense would say not to.
Many codes and laws are to protect against lack of common sense.

I've got about 8" of free hanging wire between the jbox and the first tack on the sill plate that I'm dedicating as a hanging spot for my fur coat collection.
