Hey guys, first post and my first reno, I was hoping to get some advice.

I've attached two images that show a fireplace wall that juts out from the primary wall. The wall is separated a little from the wall behind. What is the professional approach to fixing this cosmetically +- structurally?

Looks like someone tried doing this without using any drywall tape.

If it is stable, tape and joint compound. If there is movement, an inside corner molding.
