Apparently , I have a water leak , some where between the water meter ( in the alley ) to the house .

The existing line is copper , in fact , all the water piping inside the house is copper , too . I will probably install the new line to the house in PVC .

Where would I purchase the new " slip nut fitting " that attaches to the " house side " of the water meter ? The existing fitting looks to be brass / copper with the copper water line soldered to it . It unscrews like 1/2 of a union .

Or , if there are no holes in that piece of the copper pipe , do I just adapt from copper to PVC ?

I plan to keep the interior piping in copper

Keep the existing union with a short copper stub. Sweat up to a copper female adapter. Mate to a PVC male adapter.

That sounds like a plan .

Will know more when I dig it up and can better see what I have .

The house is pier and beam . I know where the existing line stubs up , under the house . But that line probably passes under the concrete back patio and and a concrete back porch .

I will have to pick a more accessible spot ( in an old flower bed ) to stub under the foundation / footing . New ditch in the flower bed to a 24" concrete walk way / border . Under it and continue the new ditch to the water meter .

Under the house , I will install a " Tee " in an existing cold water line and re-feed the house system from a some what different place .

Last thing would be to cut and cap off the spot where the existing exterior water line ties to the existing interior piping .

I would not use PCV. If you don't want copper then I would be using poly pipe.

Ayuh,.... The hi-density plastics are 'bout all that's used up here now a days,....

Contractors, 'n water districts alike,...

pvc is a thing of the past,...

Poly or PEX ?

Why not PVC ? It is inexpensive , available simple technology & I would not need any tools I do not have . And I have run my share of PVC conduit in the past .

I know I would need to use primer , in addition to the cement / glue .

In my area (coastal SC), PVC is pretty much the standard for buried water lines. 20 foot, belled ended schedule 40.

Poly comes in rolls so you would have no connections except at the ends. It's just what we use here for underground water.

I am also considering PEX , for that reason .

Never used PEX , but I have done some research on it , this weekend .
