I am getting a new house trailer and want to use service that is currently feeding old trailer so that power company does not need to add a service. How far can I run underground from meter that is already there, what type and size wire and plastic? The old trailer will be disconnected and moved once new trailer is set up. 200 amp service is needed at new trailer which is same as old trailer.

Thanks, hd82

The meter can be almost anywhere on the premisis, but you MUST have a service rated disconnect within 30' of the trailer but NOT mounted on or in the trailer.

If I were you I'd read up on Art550 of the NEC.

550.32 Service Equipment.
(A) Mobile Home Service Equipment.
The mobile home service equipment shall be located adjacent to the mobile home and not mounted in or on the mobile home. The service equipment shall be located in sight from and not more than 9.0 m (30 ft) from the exterior wall of the mobile home it serves. The service equipment shall be permitted to be located elsewhere on the premises, provided that a disconnecting means suitable for use as service equipment is located within sight from and not more than 9.0 m (30 ft) from the exterior wall of the mobile home it serves and is rated not less than that required for service equipment per 550.32(C). Grounding at the disconnecting means shall be in accordance with 250.32.

This is fine, I have a pole and disconnect I intend on using anyway. Sorry for the confusion, my intent is to run from the meter to another pole that will be the disconnect (main) for the trailer and a seperate breaker for the A/C. The distance I am guessing is near 80' - 100' between the two trailers.

Shouldn't be a problem at that distance. Check with the local power company -- they may require a separate disconnect at the meter location.

You'll still need the disconnect within 30 feet of the trailer in any case.

Thanks, still looking for the size wire and plastic to go the distance. I am leaving everything on the pole from the old trailer. Run the new supply underground to a new pole and disconnect, from there the supply will run underground to the box in the new trailer.

To run approx 100' underground (I guess I should also tell you the transformer is about 25' from the old trrailer) to supply 200amps to new trailer I need ---ga wire and --" plastic?

Using copper conductors, we would install: (2) #2/0 THWN hots, #1/0 THWN neutral, and a #6 THWN ground.

You can use a 2" PVC conduit for this. While it will fit into a 1-1/2" conduit, that would be a tough pull.

Thanks guys. With this info I will be able to "Kill two stones with one bird" since I am renting a trencher this weekend to put in the sprinkler system I can dig the trench for the electrical and save the $162.00 rental a second time.

Its always good to be able to get expert advice from people who are interested in helping the layman.

I do mushrooms so if there's something you need to know about that subject just ask.

I am a mushroom distributor. I sell to all the produce companies in the new orleans and baton rouge area. Everytime someone asks what I do I tell them mushrooms, the common reply is "Can you get me some of those funny mushrooms." Its a great way to start a conversation! As for pukin', I don't know as I have never done any type of illegal drugs or mushrooms.
