Hi from BillyT..I`m new to this site, I am in the process of building a log home in the wilds of Tennessee. I`m sure this site will serve invaluable since this is my first new home build. Just wanted to say Hi..

Welcome! My wife and I built our log home ourselves about four years ago. Took us more than two years, during which we lived in our RV on the property (through two WV winters). We subbed out the foundation, HVAC, and metal roof, and did literally everything else ourselves. Are you going with a kit, or starting with cutting down trees? If kit, what company is it from?

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I am not a professional tradesman of any kind (retired engineer) but can certainly offer the DIY perspective and advice.

Thanks for the advice and help folks..We purchased a kit from Daniel Boone Log Homes in Nashville, and couldn`t be more pleased with our choice.. They have a great staff that have really been responsive to our needs and at a price better than we expected. Plus, being a local company, we figured service after the sale would be important to us. We plan to have Curt Woodall bring it to dry in phase, then we will take it from there. I will be posting pics as we move through the process. Those of you that have already built your log homes will be invaluable to us I`m sure. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the offer. I`m sure I will be calling on you from time to time. Anyone that braved two winters in WV is OK in my book. We bought a kit from Daniel Boone Log Homes out of Nashville. great folks to work with. We plan to take over at the dry in phase and finish it from there.

Wow, this is very interesting to me . I am think about buying an log cabin in Southwest Ohio , that about half finished. It would be great for us older guys for deer hunting. But its been setting there for about 15 yrs, has the sides up and doors and windows in roofs has been completed. But the cinching was not finished. All the logs and flooring was cut at a loco saw mill from logs off this property . Its small but I guess I could add on it, about 20 x 20 single story now but we think it maybe tight for 5 to 6 guys . any IDEAS would help
