Definately the poor house ;-) I always suggest that you live in a house for a few months before starting any major renovations/alterations. Then you know how it all flows, what works, what doesn't. No doing something over later because you realize it ought to have been differently. And invariably there will be an unexpected big ticket expense that you need that money for.
