Available are gas stoves with cook top and oven lock out features. Ours has this feature and is a plus for peace of mind when grand children and some adults alike are present.

The only con we've determined is the ranges with lock out will not operate during purchased electric power failure as our old range would.

If a home generator is to be used I suggest the stove manual is referred to and determine if the genny being used is a clean enough power source.

On a standard width stove, keep it simple. Not sure what or how you cook. Do you enjoy cooking or do you simple put dinner on the table? Buying features which don't add to your use of the appliance is a waste of money . I enjoy cooking and am fairly accomplished . The being said I need a burner that can vehemently boil 8 quarts of water, and another one that can cook rice perfectly in 20 minutes. I need an oven that an maintain an even heat at any any temperature for baking bread, making a thin crust pizza, slow cooking a clay pot stew or roasting beef rib roast to perfection. Nothing fancy needed , just make sure the basics are up to snuff. Cooking is about controlling heat. Go to a top restaurant, the stove is gas burners, the broiler a salamander, and the oven a basic device with a heat source . That is all you need.

Temperature gage that reads continuously as the oven heat up. My current stove only show "pre" as the oven heats up, and then shows the programmed temp (i.e. 400) after it is reached. My old stove showed temperature continuously as it heat up, which was convenient, because I often did "cheat" (i.e. put stuff in early).

My new stove is a convection stove. You have the capability of
using both convection bake and convection roast or using regular
bake and roast. It has three oven racks and every time you open
the oven door the light comes on...It's also a slide in, (no back)
The middle burner is nice for grilling or making pancakes, French
toast, etc.
I love the convection part, it cooks faster than a regular oven.
It has a warming drawer, but I never use it.
The burners all connected on top, and that is the best
feature, as you can slide the pots aside easily.

This is the top. This is the feature that I love, that I mentioned
in my post -- the whole top is (heavy duty) grills, thus you can slide
the pot aside easily. I love the look of the heavy duty grills, but the
two end ones are heavy to remove, the center one is lighter. I just
remove one of the end burners to clean the top, and slide the other
two burners back and forth.

The Stainless Steel top wipes off easily. I do the grills in the dishwasher
once a week to keep them clean. The burners are also hot, 12000
10,500, and 9000btu, plus a simmer burner. the The front right
burner is the double ring burner that is 1200btu, it boils
a big pot of water very fast.
We love to cook, and we love this stove.
