Hello everyone, I am in need of some advice.
I am doing a bathroom remodel and I need to install new drain pipes from the bathtub,vanity and toilet into the old pipes.
I am also converting the shower into a laundry closet for a double stack. What would be the best way to do this?

Since the current material is cast iron with hubs, you can purchase "donuts" to transfer from cast to PVC. These fit into the hub for the transfer. This should make it easier for you to work with. Remember, shower drains are required to be 2" while tub/shower combinations only need to be 1-1/2". Check to make sure if your area now requires 2" for washer drains.

"Sometimes" you can twist the pipe and break the lead loose. Other times, you may need to melt the lead out. Be careful doing this and do not allow any water contact with melting lead. Then you can pull out the oakum.

Or....you can cut the pipe and leave the hubs alone. You would use a shielded coupling such as a Proflex by Fernco to make the transition from cast (or galvanized) to PVC.

Ok so I took the drain pipes out. I used a torch an melted the lead out.
should I take the last hub out? here are the pics.

I love working on those older homes with the old C.I. piping and the lath/plaster wall. I would not remove any more C.I. piping then necessary and would leave a hub to connect to. As posted there are "doughnut" type connectors to adapt the old C.I. to new PVC. Checking your local codes for compliance and pipe sizing would be a must do at this point also. Your posting of pictures certainly helps anyone understand where you are and where you are going at this point.

Yes I am going to be changing the supply lines, I would like to use pex knowing the cost related to using copper, but the previous owner started with copper so I am going to keep everything uniform. I am also going to run new electrical. This is going to be a complete bathroom remodel. I have pics of the way the bathroom looked before I started the demo. If I were doing it,,,I would take out the large wye yet and replace with plastic to stool and new plastic wye for reducing down to 2". Reason is the 2"cast will tend to plug right where it joins the larger size.. Its rough and grabs on to soap scum and drained hair balls etc.. Plastic seldom if ever does!! Use purple goop and plumb away. its a short distance and prevention beats tearing things up for access later.

Other way is to tear out ALL cast including the stack,,how far up does it run(how many stories?) and how far down before it enters the ground?? How many more connections are on this stack?? AND are you willing to open enough walls to get to it all 'now'??

The cast iron stack will quiet the water draining down it. PVC tends to allow the water draining to make sounds as it travels down.

When using donuts to make the transition be sure to bevel your pvc (with a grinder, file, edge of the chop saw blade..whatever it takes) and to use plenty of pipe lube (aka "duck butter") Getting the pvc seated in the donut can be a real pain in the dexterior at times.
