Hi all. I am in the market for building a new carpentry shop to house my stationary tools and provide a decent place to work. I am in SE Mass, I have a nice level area and no restrictions on size other than cost. So, I am looking for advice on getting going such as size, foundation type, roof trusses vs stick built, etc. or references to other sites that discuss these things. I am not a professional....but do have professional quality tools.....and am tired of having the cars out of the garage for a couple of weeks every time I take on a project. Thanks! Ron

Hi Ron,
Years ago I spent one summer in HS working for a Millwork, old timers who really knew their trade. Anyway, their shop had a high ceiling with the electrical hanging down along with their version of a central vac system. Nice having it all up out of the way. It made the shop floor very flexible so they could reposition equipment as needed.

Being in cold country you should go crazy with air sealing and insulation to keep the shop warm at almost zero cost. Add a fresh air system for fresh air and to filter what is there. Probably not allowed by insurance to have any wood burning heat source so maybe an outside wood boiler to take care of the scraps.
