It's masonite and rotting. I'm not sure what to replace it with. Currently it appears to be two pieces of wood, one is 1"x1" the other is 1"x1 1/4" stacked side by side, running from top to bottom. The closest thing I can find at my local big box is 1x1 trim that I can stack side by side but it's $2.01 per linear foot!! Which means around $60 for this little piece, since it's over 80" and I'll need two for each side. What is the best thing to replace this with? I couldn't find anything that was 1" x 2 1/4 or 1" x 2" either.

What you need is a table saw, a router and make the trim.

You won’t find those dimensions on the shelf.

They make a composite material you can use to replace the material you have now. It comes in various widths and thicknesses. Buy what you need and fabricate the profiles that match.
