Our AC went out this week... Service tech says there is a leak in the coil of the inside unit. I can't afford his quoted price of $1300 to replace the coil. He also suggested replacing the hold unit to renew the warranty period. Of course that runs $2300... I located a replacement Air handler unit for $800 complete with 10 years warranty. Only catch is that I have to have a licensed tech install it... after calling around today, it looks like installation will run $800+... This is even with me putting the unit in the attic. My question is, is this a standard installation fee or are these guys just making up for me sourcing the unit?

Anyone in the DFW are looking for extra cash

any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Sounds like a cheap install price.

More work then you think, to make a mismatched system work half way right.

Your old outdoor unit is probably a 10 SEER.
And the new indoor unit is a 13 SEER. makes it a mismatched system.

Your not paying for a tech to do the heavy lifting.

Your paying for him to do the technical work.

Heavy lifting is what we pay some guy 10 bucks an hour for.
