I'm not really a handyman but I need a simple, workable idea for a way to lift groceries, etc. from the ground level to a 2nd floor porch (the house is in a flood zone so the front door opens from the porch. There is no ground level entry. The person is getting older and has a difficult time with the stairs now, especially in bad weather and where one trip up the stairs would be doable, several trips would not. Would a hoist work or is there a better idea? and how strong would the porch roof have to be? Several bags of groceries would be what it's needed for. Thank you for any help you can give and for your time and trouble.

Harbor Freight has electric winches fairly cheap that could be used as a lift mechanism. It just depends on you how far you wish to go to make the lift. Will a swing arm over the rail work for you or will you want a hole cut in the floor to make a lift that way? Will there be two people to operate the lift or just one? (One loads on ground other takes off on porch)
