I got stumped on how to make this shower look right. On this shower niche, I used the same tiles on my floor as I am in the shower but with a different color. My bottom of shower enclosure to the bottom lip of the niche is 38 1/8". Measuring the floor layout I get exactly 36" using full tiles.

So I have 2 1/8 inch to make up. I don't like the idea of putting a 2 /18" tile sliver at the bottom of the shower but up till now, this is the only thing I could think of.

I am thinking of framing out the niche with the Schluter Quadec. I prefer the look of beveled edge but am concerned about screwing that up so I will likely go with Quadec. So at 5/16" that means I need to make up for 1 13/16" to make up for the Quadek's dimensions.

As I started to write this I came up with another solution: Start tiling as normal from the bottom. Place a thinner tile under the niche as needed with full-width tiles on either side of the niche.

I appreciate any suggestions on how to make this right.

I'm not exactly clear on what you're describing (other than you're short a bit over an inch) somewhere (the top or bottom of the shower wall? at the inset part? idk)

Either way I'd grout in a small band of accenting color (maybe the floor color or something that pops) to make up the difference. You could put that at the very top of the shower. Could put it in the center (around abouts the inset) and continue it around the entire shower. Have to play with it an' see what-cha like visually.

I don't understand the problem either. It looks to me like you've already installed your niche at the height you want. You basically have 2 options when installing niches.

a) install the niche exactly where you want it, and at the exact size that the manufacturer provides, and then tile around it when you get to it
b) custom make your niche to fit with the grout lines in your tile. This means either very serious advance planning, or not cutting the niche until you're actually at that row of tile.

Sounds like you went with option a already so you don't have much choice. You don't want cut tiles at the bottom of the wall, so tile up to it, then cut around it. Quadec is a fine choice (I'd normally use Rondec). You would install the trim around the niche first, then cut your tile to fit. However I usually cheat a little bit and find I need to make micro adjustments, so I cut and "install" the trim first, then cut and install my tile, and then make little adjustments before the mortar on the trim has set. I might want to move it slightly up or down, and then adjust the tile on the inside slightly up or down by using more or less thinset when setting those tiles.
