I'm looking to upgrade the look of my bathroom vanity. Instead of replacing it completely I thought I'd just swap the panels. So instead of the plastic-like white, I'd like it to be a nice walnut wood. Basically simple flat panels, like the existing ones. Question is, how? (I'm not experienced in this).

This is the cabinet:

Solid panels of walnut are expensive. Would the right way to do this be to use composite plywood? Like?:

If that would work, how to handle the edges? Some of that iron-on wood edging? That would be simple. Or, would it be too difficult to cut tongue-and-groove solid wood edges?

Or I could just glue a solid wood edge?:

The advantage of these would be, I could slightly round the edge. Or I can create a natural handle at the top edge with a groove or something, I don't know. However I do it, I don't want the same handle currently on the cabinet.

Or perhaps there is a more cost effective solid wood that would look nice?

I'd love to hear some thoughts and guidance.

Thank you!

THanks Nealtw,

Yes that was the first option I mentioned. Seems like an easy simple option. I just worry about how "finished" it looks.

As for the type of wood, is plywood more common?
