Requires specialized equipment unless you feel like disassembling all the duct sections and clean by hand with a vac.
i know one guy who tried. His ducts whistle all the tunes in the Sgt. Peppers Beatles album when he put it back together.

Thanks HVL

Was thinking about pulling a 6" chimney brush through some of the heat runs, but I expect the issue is the returns not the heat ducts.

No DIY gadgets out ther for this project yet? I had them done before but wasn't here to watch. Is it a big floppy rotary brush?

The only real good way to have it done is with the larger full size vacuum truck and not the smaller portable type that they use in a van. The more professional companies blow compressed air thru all the vents at the same time. I would cut an access hole in the return duct and inspect it myself. If your air filter is not getting dirty very fast then the ducts are probably okay. Beware of the low $$ cost companies as they usually do a blow and go routine. You get what you pay for and have to watch them.
