If I am reading this correctly, you have 3 cables entering the first switch box, correct?

Correct! Source, one going to the light, one going to switch #2If I am reading this correctly, you have 3 cables entering the first switch box, correct?

Thanks for the suggestion. Still the same issue. It appears that you have wired it correctly.
The only other thing left to try would be feed power to the smart switch first.
To do this, you would have to disconnect the wire that brings power into the first box, connect the smart switch's black wire to it, and connect the wire that is the common on switch #2 to the wire that goes to the light fixture.
This would send power to the smart switch first, then to the 2nd switch, then the light.
If this doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.
