Any techs on here in Nebraska? I'm in south Texas but have to travel up there to rework a 16 seer condensing furnace that was a poor install for my boss.

I've never installed a condensing furnace (heat pump and gas secondary) up in Nebraska, just wondering if there's anything I need to pay special attention to. Unit is located in attic and is supposed to me moved from one place in attic to another spot in the attic. Ducts and intake and exhaust piping and all will be reworked.

may have to insulate the exhaust pipe and the condensate trap and drain line. If its in an area that the temps drop below freezing.

What would I use to insulate these pipes with? I do believe that the freezing condensate is already an issue.

Yep insulate the exhaust and self regulating heat tape on the trap and condensate line. Not too bad here right now Doc... highs are hitting almost 20 degrees and the lows are still above zero. Should be fun for a texas guy:laughing:

Here in Houston we don't have basements. Just about everything is in attics, even the hot water heaters.

Highs in the 20's? I'm not too thrilled with that at all. Plan was to catch a bus to Dallas to meet up with the hvac company owner and drive in his truck up there to head honcho's place, but not sure what town.

We'll see if it's actually going to happen or not.

I once lived in a rental home. The owner decided to have a furnace installed in the attic. It soon became apparent that the installer neglected
the small detail of the condensate drain.

The drywall on the ceiling came down in chunks.:laughing::laughing:

The ground water level may be high in a lot of areas so to dig a basement is impossible. Also basements cost a lot of $$ to dig and pour walls etc so to keep the house construction cost down attic units are used or crawlspace units too.
