I've only gotten into cactus in the last 10 yrs. I had one of these rod like cactuses. I lived in a type of a compound of apartments for awhile, in Thousand Oaks, CA, nearer the ocean. The cactus, in the patio sun, spread like crazy into many, many cacti. The other occupants were Israeli men. I left it for them when I moved. I've bought several since then but they don't grow as well. It was something in the air, I think.

Lately, I notice pretty lavender succulents I want to buy.

Is your plant a succulent?

@Startingover, that is a rip-roarin' [feces] screamin' to die for Adenium! Screamed down the elevator shaft of the Dark Tower but no one's here to hear . . .

They're not easy to keep happy here in California. Keep dry in the winter, which I think will be easier for you than for us.

It's not really a cactus, but a member of the milkweed family, I think.

Neglecting the watering is exactly what they want in the winter. Not sure about fertilizer.

I once auctioned a plant like that for like $300. They're prized out here, almost as much as toilet paper and face masks.
