I have a couple of questions.
1. what is the best way to tape and mud the joint where the hardibacker and the drywall meet?
2. part of the drywall will be painted and part of the drywall will be tiled on. What do you use for the tiled part for mudding - thinset or regular drywall mud?

Best case scenario would be to kill the edge where the hardie and drywall meet with a bullnose tile piece that laps onto the drywall. If you must finish it, I'd use mesh tape and setting type compound for the first coat (at least). Again, I'd go with a tiled edge if at all possible....
