I want to move my 3 sided fireplace from the middle of my family room and bring it off the wall. I live in a town home and the wall it would come off is a common wall. Is this possible or would the building codes prevent me from putting a fireplace on a common wall??

Im new to chat rooms so it might take a bit to get this down, thanks for the help. I can post some pics tomorrow. Its an exisitng gas 3 sided fireplace. The builder put it as the divider for the family room and dinning room, good idea but wrong location. You cant use any type of large furniture the way it is. I want to turn it around and put it on the wall instead of right in the middle. Its direct vented straight up so i would have to vent it with some 90 degree elbows to go out the same chimney and with the HOA theres no way they would let me punch a new hole.

I suggest that you call a fireplace installation company---They will know the specs on the unit and have the insurance needed to do the job.

Your HOA will not allow you to DIY this job,I;m sure. Done incorrectly a carbon monoxide hazard will be created.

There are times and places where DIY is not an option--This is one of them.---Mike---
