Im going to start on a remodel project and i need to move my meter and put in new electric panel. Right now my meter is a 100 amp and it is mounted on front corner of house with overhead service. Im wanting to put a 200 amp meter and panel in in the carport room which is about 30 feet away. The problem im looking at is where the mast will go through the roof is on the backside of the ridge line so my mast will have to be at least 5 feet above the roof line to give clearance for the power conductors to come over roof ridge cap. Would it be ok to put new mast at the ridge line go through the roof and securely mount to truss use a 90 corner go 3 feet and than another 90 corner and go straight down to meter. Im not sure what the best fix for this is. Thanks for any help

Probably not. Have you contacted your utility company? A project planner will give you info or refer you to their standards. In my region, non fused conductors need to be as short as possible. Instead of a meter pan you could use a meter main with no distribution. Then you could run the feeder how you described.

In my location , an entry cable can not run over any structure . Your POCO can give you all the details in your area .
Your POCO would love the house next to mine. The city owned utility will not move the electrical drop, because it has to travel over the top of the detached garage. Even better is that it is about 4-6" from the top of the roof, depending on what time of year that it is.

Why run it through the roof. Also because you are moving the panel, you are still going to have to have the old one where it is, unless you plan on ripping out all of the wiring in the house and run it from the Carport.

Because you plan on placing the panel in the Carport, you will have to go with a unit that has the Meter and panel together, which would need to be outdoor rated.

Put up a link with the floor plan drawing, pictures of all four sides, with the area in the carport marked where you plan on placing the panel and where you plan on locating the feed from the utility to the panel.

Some things sound really good on paper. When it comes down to it, it doesn't work out that way in the end.
