I bought a motion activated switch to replace my normal electrical switch.

When I went to instlal it, my old swith had 2 black wires, 1 red wire and 1 bare wired. I assume this is a 2 way switch.


The switch I bought has 1 green, and 2 black wires. Can I use the new switch with my the current 2 way switch?

Sounds like your old switch is part of a three way switching. It switches form more than one location.
The new switch does not sound like a 3 way switch. It should have three wire + ground.

What is the make and model of the switch?

If it's not too late, pay attention as to which wire is on the dark or brass screw (different from other 2) of each switch. That is the common and must be the correct wire here.
