Single handle moen kitchen faucet dripping so I replaced cartridge. After installing new one, when the water is turned back on, the cold water runs out the spout even though the handle is off. I have tried to reseat this thing in every possible way thinking cartridge has to be in there wrong. What could be the problem?

Can you post a picture, or give us a model number?

This is it. Its about 3 yrs. old. I have been trying to figure this out for 3 days.

Are you sure you got the right cartridge for your model fixture? Do you have the model number of the fixture?

Did you clean out the cylinder real well where the cartridge sits?

Is the replacement cartridge the exact same height as the old?

Well... Thanks to you I took a good look at the old cartridge vs. the new and there was a piece of black rubber on the bottom of both sides of the old cartridge and only 1 piece on the new. So the cartridge came missing a seal.:thumbup: I really really appreciate you taking the time to help me. Golly what a guy!!!
Next, on to the Bath sink... (It wont shut all the way off...) My Plumbing fixtures all failed in the last 2 weeks. I need to take photos... Are you busy later? (just kidding)

Moen quaranties their cartridges- give them a call for replacement

It sounds like you pretty much figured it out yourself, but thanks, if you are referring to me. It is often something simple with these things, we just tend to get frustrated.

I'm not sure if yours was returned merchandise, but don't ever buy something from those big box stores that looks like it was repackaged. Chances are it was cannibalized, brought back, and the boneheads that work there tape it up and throw it back on the shelf.
