Hello all,

I plan on building a 40' long 6' tall fence using 4"x4"x10' PT posts. My intitial plan was using PT 2"x6"x8' boards for the planks but now that I think about it, 2x6 lumber is probably over kill. Maybe 5/4"x6"x8' boards? They will be spaced vertically 1" apart. I see so many guys building these fences but I cant figure out what size boards theyre using. Price wise I find very little difference in 2x6 or 5/4x6. Would 1"x6"x8' not do the job? Or do I need to reduce the span to 6'?

The fence will be built then allowed to dry out then stained and sealed.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

I would use 5/4. It usually stays straight better than 1x6.
