I have a mobile home that feeds off the MH Park 4 gang meter pedestal. Now I have had one of the feeder wires burn out and I am running off of the one leg. Watching the amps carefully. While I save the $2875.00 for the electrician to repair. Now here is the question. The 150 amp disconnect at the meter pedestal gets wet and snaps off. The rubber boots around the meters have decayed to near non-existance, water can enter the pedestal around them. Could this possibly be what may have caused the feeder wire to burn in two? Not looking for something to throw in the face of the park management. My reason is to weigh out my options. If I spend 3 grand to fix could the leaking pedestal cause the new one to burn out also. If so, I may just need to fold and sell.

Thank You.

That seems like an awfully high price for what you're describing. Is it a really long run? Is other equipment being replaced besides just the feeder? Exactly what is being done?

With that said, wires do not just burn all by themselves. Something must have happened to it. Water intrusion can start an arcing situation that causes equipment to burn up, and if that's what happened then probably other parts need to be repaired to fix the problem. Can you post photos?

Nothing to take a picture of sorry unless it is the dry rotted gasket around the meter. I can't get into the disconnect box the power company has to pull the meters to get in. The run would be approx 85 feet. Wire and conduit. The rubber gasket is dry rotted to near nonexistent. Disconnect breaker tripped and was wet from the rain. Has a flap box type cover. Today the other leg burned out no power at all. Electrician checked inside of disconnect and breaker when the first leg burned out.

With no power, I probably won't get a reply. ok. With no pictures on this one, it is a difficult call. At the least, get a second opinion from a reputable Electrical Contractor. And yes, go deeper that the "A's" when looking for a 2nd opinion. Reputable will also give free estimates.
