Mitering (sp?) a corner

Hello,
Would you get the same results when mitering a corner if you split the angles in two instead of half? I.E. a 100 degree corner. Would the results be the same from a 55 degree corner and a 45 degree corner instead of a 50 degree and a 50 degree? Or better yet. How do you calibrate a compound miter saw? I think my saw is off by 2 or 3 degrees. Thanks for your time and input.
