Which is recommended, Minwax Polyshade or stain and finish with water base poly. I am staining red oak wainscoting.

Hey jiju,
Let me be off the cuff and quick. Stay as far away from Polyshades as you can. I don't know what Minwax was thinking when they came out with that product, it's tricky to use, will scratch at a blink of an eye, does not penetrate into the substrate and if you make a mistake there's no going back to correct it. Stay with oil or water stain and poly.

Thank you Steve, I really do appreciate that information, I will go with regular oil base stain with water base poly. Thanks again buddy.

I would use an oil base stain, as a water base could raise the grain, not to mention that an oil base will penetrate the wood better. I prefer to use water base poly, as it is clear and does not yellow the stain. 2-3 coats
Thank you for your information, that is the route I will take. I appreciate all of your help.
