I couldn't find the right group for this minor question, but I suspect the people who frequent this topic will be the ones who can help me... Sorry if it feels off topic.

We recently installed some wood shelves with a steel support. It's a row of metal posts with wood shelves that the posts slide into. The top two have some tension, but the bottom one has none. Of course the bottom one is the one with the built in towel rack, and it's a kid's bathroom, so I foresee the future toddler pulling down a handtowel and bringing the whole shelf down onto her head.

I was going to squirt some construction adhesive into the hole in the shelf and push it on. Is there a better adhesive or better method to get the shelf to stay in place? (I don't see bending the posts as practical)

It will never come off the wood. It won't stick very well to the steel, but it expands as it cures, so with a zero clearance fit, you will have a real hard time ever getting it off. You could grind a groove.notch into the end (NOT near the wall) of the steel pin, so the adhesive mechanically locks to the pin, but that is overkill.
