Nick, you said you found the screening on line with grommets.
How wide is it and what width are you Purchasing?

As I stated ours is in 2 foot width and about 10 feet long.
I didn't want it all the way up to the house cause I wanted
maximum light coming into the house.

Not knowing your conditions...(do you have rails like we do.)
I can only tell you what we did.
The head guy cut wood to fit over each section and installed
the mesh in between 2 wood slats on each side. Then he installed
the the wood with bungi cords on each end. This keeps
the fabric taunt all season and makes it easy to install and take
down in the fall.
I'll get pics, stay tuned.

I could only find pics of the old mesh (which was four feet wide)
Note the notch in the middle, that was for fitting over the middle
rail...Think of the way a hammock is made.

This is it. The mesh is sandwiched between two pieces of wood
for each end.

Note the bungi cords. They are short bungi cords (purchased
at harbor freight) The bungi cords are pulled tight and hooked
into screws that are in the rails. This makes it easy to install
and take down. Just unhook the bungi cords and roll up
each section.
This is the way we did it, I know there are other ways as well.

Our install is going to be a bit different. My pergola is "crooked" in that the 2 sides are at different angles due to it's location and being and afterthought that should have been planned as part of the patio install.

I think we're going to get this one. Sized to fit over most of the roof and down the side near the fire pit in the pic, probably the 16' x 20'.

The bungie cords are an excellent idea! I'm thinking I'll use some eyelets and bungies to hold it on the roof.

Now, I just have to figure out a way to drape it over the side and have some way of retracting it or holding it up when we don't need the shade, though.

yikes, those prices are great. Think outside the box on this one.
What about ordering a bit smaller tarp just to fit the pergola top,
and on the side order a smaller one that would be individually installed
like a 6 X 16... (or whatever fits the width you need.) Then put a series
of hooks on the two uprights that you can fold the side panel
( with grommets) up into the hooks in order to lift it up.
Get what I mean? That's my first idea.

The other idea is to install a thin pole along the end (with end brackets)
and install the tarp with the grommets through the pole (like a shower curtain) and
then you can pull the tarp back and forth just like a shower curtain.
I think I like the last idea better. It's quick and easy.

I think I get what you mean in idea 1. I don't know if that will work just because it's 8' tall and I won't be able to reach that high.

The shower curtain idea, though, if I can figure out a good way to mount it, may be the way to go.
