I am installing hardwood floors in a home I am renovating. These will be nice quality, solid wood, prefinished floors.
There was carpet in the room which was removed. Now I am left with really old linoleum. Previously when I installed hardwoods, the guy I was working with recommended we put tar paper underneath to prevent squeaks and create a moisture barrier. So far it has worked well.
In this instance, I felt the linoleum wouldn't be a bad thing to leave beneath the floors. I wasn't sure if I should use tar paper over it and just today, the guy I ordered the floors from recommended that we install Aqua Guard beneath the floors.
So, should I use linoleum only or install tar paper or Aqua Guard over top of it before the hardwoods?
Thanks in advance for your help!
