I want to suspend something to my ceiling studs but want to be able to lower it down. (It's a table for periodic drafting and I have limited floor space for it). I have the idea of basically suspending it via cables, fisheye hooks and two counter weights. So basically a simple pulley. Cables have weights on one end and run up my wall, through the hooks, and then back down to the table.

What I'm looking for is an idea for a mechanism I can build/buy that will allow me to lower the table slowly. Currently my "stop" is two hooks up my wall. So I'll unhook the weights, lower it manually and then rehook them when I need it. I do not mind this, but if anyone with more mechanical knowledge has an idea I'm more than happy to hear.
