Mechanical room plumbing

I am looking for some general guidance on number and placement of floor drains in a basement mechanical room (this is new construction). I will need a drain for the A/C, and hot water heater overflow - what else might I need. I don't like the ideal of one central drain in the middle of the floor. Can I have multiple drains? Do you map out the placement of each appliance then place a drain in the approx location of the appliance. Just looking for general guidelines. Thanks Jim.
