New constrution, or a real replacement window?
How old a house? Yes there's a reason I ask that question, older homes often have sagged over time and that has to be accounted for when measuring.

Hi lucky. Some terminology first.
The two choices are new construction or replacement. The difference is, new construction fastens to the sheathing beside the window opening and then the flashing, trim and siding go up against the new window.

A replacement window fits inside the existing window frame so the trim on the inside and outside remains in place.

An up and down window is called a single or double hung. A side by side window is called a slider.

Now, since your current window has already been replaced, we don't know if it was inserted into the existing (old) window frame or is they removed the siding and installed a new construction version.

What type of siding do you have and are you thinking of removing the siding around the window to facilitate this replacement?

Thanks you! Not sure if we want to remove the siding....whatever is best and possibly easiest.

Replacement windows are the easiest and they are measured and made to fit. Do you plan on installing these yourself or having it done?

Others will have to chip in on measuring, I've always used new construction. However, you have to get it right as they are custom made and probably not returnable. I would take some pictures and talk to the people where you will be buying them. They will have instructions on measuring and "maybe" even come out and do it for you.

Doesn't hurt to know what they are doing so you can look over their shoulder to be sure they do it right. But, if they measure they are responsible for the fit. If you measure, well you bought them.

We still have no pictures so it's anyone's guess what your dealing with.
Confusing for several reasons.
A slider would move left to right or right to left.
A casement window would be up and down.
Still have not told us what the issue is with the old windows or even that there made of, wood, vinyl?.
