We're about to order a replacement window (pocket) for our bedroom.My father in law (who built his own house) is telling me to rip the casing off and measure from the studs.
The problem is we did this same type of window replacement in a different room (picture attached) and I'm pretty sure we measured from the inside of the frame.
Everything I've researched says to measure within the jamb.
What's the way to measure here?

How about a picture of the window you plan on replacing not one that's already been done.
No way do you have to remove the casing to measure for a replacement window.

That is a replacement unit there. In this case, you would measure from jamb to jamb, deduct 0.25" from the height and width, and be all set.

It would tuck right behind that shoe molding and get screwed and sealed up.

True. Not now they will want to pull the shoe molding and move the window further in.
