My master bath is roughly 5' W x 14' L and contains a wall that separates the bathtub and toilet from the vanities (see attached sketch). I plan on doing a full remodel in the next few months and trying to determine if I should leave the wall or remove it completely to open things up. I'm slightly leaning towards the latter. It is not load bearing and only contains electrical switches for the vent and light which will be relocated to the main entrance.

So my question is this: Is it more desirable these days to have a bathtub/toilet that is separated by a wall from the main bath for more privacy or is it better to open things up? If I do decide to remove it, I will probably install a half wall in front of the toilet to maintain some privacy. Thoughts?

Moving the commode where it would be first in line, installing a pocket door with a stained glass insert, gate legged furniture style vanity, replacing the tub with a step in frameless glass enclosed shower equipped with dual shower heads/controls and maybe some body sprays with a single slope to the original drain location.

Wat the hell, it's only money. :biggrin2:

I believe the resale value would go up. Not generally going to recoup all the cost, but you do also get an enjoyment.

Wife like mine, she gets in a shower with multiple shower heads, the hot water WILL run out,and she'll be happy.

Wow factor sells:

Not done with the room yet, but you get the idea.

There was a typical door that took up way to much room with the swing, and then there was the nasty little fiberglass shower stall and a old cheapo vanity.

That is the original medicine cabinet that will have a Cherry wood frame to match the new vanity.

Also added recessed lights and tiled floor.

2 things I'd consider - Re sale value
And Spousal Value
(Spelling is intentional)
In either case removing the wall _might_ be digging yourself into a hole.
That's my main concern, ChuckTin. If removing the wall would compromise resale value then I would leave it as is and just upgrade the fixtures and flooring.

IMHO unless it's an improvement remodeling is a non-starter. I have seen people selling with not remodeling and accepting the offers they got, or not getting the right offer, or not getting any offers.
On the other hand if you are certain you'll never move on and always be happy with your current home, that's your choice.

Good looking bathroom, ktkelly. I would love to go back with just a shower but unfortunately my wife likes to take baths. I would tell her to just use the hall bathroom for that but I'd probably get served the next day.

So my plan is this: Remove the 78" W double vanity and the 24"W x 72"H towel cabinet/hamper. Install two 36"W x 36"H single vanities with one 30"W x 42"H drawer cabinet in the middle. All three cabinets will have solid surface marble or granite tops. I want to open things up so the towel cabinet will need to come down. I prefer to have a hotel style metal rack over the toilet for towel storage.
