I am replacing the drywall in one of our bathrooms and I need to shut off the water to take the taps off the tub and shower. Problem is that I can't get the main water valve coming in the house closed. It seems to be seized. I do not want to break anything but I cannot complete my project till I get this valve closed. Any tips, tricks or miracle lubes that I can use to fix this problem?

If it is a gate valve, try loosening the nut under the handle about 1/2 turn. This may allow you to turn the handle. Since main shut-off valves do not get used much, it is typical that they corrode inside. You may also want to try tapping (not beating) on the bottom of the valve while you put pressure on turning the handle.
