I’m currently installing Mannington Audra Rigid floating vinyl plank in my remodel. All the subfloor is old 5/8 particle board over 5/8 plywood. The manufacturer said that it’s fine as a subfloor for floating luxury vinyl. However, in the kitchen, was glued down carpet that I removed. Under the carpet was an old yellow adhesive. I cannot find any information as to whether or not I can install the vinyl plank directly over the old adhesive or not. The new flooring has an attached underlayment pad on each piece. The instructions say not to install over asphalt based “cutback” adhesive, but this does not appear to be asphalt based cutback. Am I ok to go right over the old glue? It’s fairly smooth and not ridged real high or anything. I have attached photos. Thank you in advance!

I would try a floor buffer with a stripper pad. Getting the glue off will be a pain, which very well prevent pain in the future.

I would staple down 30 pound building felt over the glue and lay the floor. The felt will prevent the glue from sticking to the planks and allow the planks to expand and contract.

I keep seeing folks suggesting the use of "roofing felt" (a product designed to be used outside) inside of homes. Is that really a good idea from a MSDS / off gassing / health perspective?
