I have previously installed low voltage lights outside, but this time there's a new twist. I know the wiring is designed to be buried, normally without being in conduit. Now I want to run the wiring on top of a pergola, I finished last year, to some down lights hidden in the beams. Am wondering if the wire will hold up to the sun, if it is exposed instead of being buried. Should it be in conduit?

OK, it looks like the wire is OK ( I hadn't bought it yet ). "UL 2/C 12 AW 60 C VW-1 150V UNDERGROUND Low Energy Circuit Cable Sunlight Resistant." I hadn't noticed the "Sunlight Resistant" marking. I also had some older cable that says sunlight resistant. Since the wire will be run between 2x10's on top of the pergola, ai should be partially protected from the sun.
