Kenmore HD Washer model 22622100. At the end of spin cycle it emits a loud thumping sound. Is there some sort of brake mechanism that engages to stop the drum that could be broken?

single thump or multiple thumps? How long does the thumping last?

I'm guessing the load is off balance during the spin dry cycle.
