Hi all,

I have noticed that my refrigerator has become increasingly loud.

To me it seems like the noise is coming from the ice maker.

-The ice maker is functioning.
-When I turn the ice maker off, using the control on the fridge, the noise continues.
-When I open the freezer, the noise stops almost immediately.
-When I open the refridge, the noise continues.

If the noise I am hearing in that vid is what I think it is then you need to access the compartment where the fan is. Sounds like the fan is rubbing on something

Is there a fan in the icemaker?
I wonder if I am incorrectly identifying where the noise is coming from.
The noise stops as soon as i open the freezer door. The unit is currently quiet,
though it has been consistently returning.

I just went through the same issue. When I took off the cover it was a huge block of ice that the fan was rubbing on. I defrosted the freezer and turned down the water for the ice maker. Hope it works for you.

So maybe just defrosting the fridge will solve the problem?

It worked for me. My ice maker was not working so I changed out the module and did not have the water adjusted right so each time it would make ice a little water would drip down and ice built up around the fan it sounded just like yours. I pulled of the cover and saw this. Defrosted the freezer adjusted the ice maker and it has been fine for the last six months.

One last tging if you don't mind. Where is the fan you
looked at? In the ice maker housing?

Mine was on the back wall of the freezer just below the ice maker. Once I removed all of the food I had a cover that was removable with about 15 to 20 screws. I guess I should mention I have a side by side refrigerator freezer. I just looked at my fridge in the garage and it also has the removable plate in the back and this fridge is the fridge on the bottom and freezer on top. Hope this helps.

I the last two pictures you posted I see what looks like the back wall of the freezed compartment. You wil have to remove that panel to locate the fan. Unfortunatly there are several other components that will have to come out as well. I would try defrosting it for a day or so if posible before tearing into it. I'll be willing to bet this will be an ongoing problem.

Thanks for supplying the video. I'd say it's an ice issue which has gotten too close to the fan. Some refrigerators actually shut down when you open the door, that may be why it stops when you do so. Can you defrost it for some amount of time? Any water buildup or ice anywhere in the freezer? If you can tell where the cold air is coming from, put a hair dryer there for a few minutes and see if you can defrost around the fan. But I'm 99% sure it's ice around the blower.
