Lost Screws on Trane Heat Pump

5985 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  homedoc
While outside I noticed there are several screws missing from the side panels of my Trane Weathertron XE1000 heat pump condenser. I removed one of the screws and it is an unslotted indented 5/16 inch hex head screw that appears to be galvanized and about 1/2 inch long. I guess this is what is considered a zip screw. I am not sure if it is a #8 or a #10 screw. It has a sharp point. Does anyone know where to buy replacement screws for this unit? I went to the local Home Depot and Lowe's but they don't have an exact match.

Thanks for your assistance. I truly appreciate it!
I tried to find the screws I need at several local hvac supply houses and they were unable to help me with the screws. Anyone know the part number for these screws so I can get my unit buttoned back up? Thanks!

Dude just go to home depot and find something similar. No point on spending a ton of money on screws for the panel. Just make sure there are not longer don't wanna puncture the coil.
I have two of these units side by side. I only wanted all of the screws to match. I figured that some of the hvac professionals had come across this problem of a missing screw or two on a unit and could hook me up with some information on a replacement. My bad!!!!!
I get my spare screws from new RTU's, they have a bag with them for mounting the economizer. So on units that don't get one, i get spare screws.
I would take a couple of the colored ones from an unseen side/area and put them where you want and use some generic ones where you cannot see them. You would have to order the OEM ones from Trane and that may be very expensive and logistically difficult.
Good idea. I went ahead and purchased some #10 x 1/2" hex head self-drilling screws manufactured by Crown Bolt. The number on the box is 30282 in case anyone else runs into this issue. The screws worked and my unit is all buttoned up again. I appreciate all of you who gave advice and support.
