Hi

Looking for some suggestions for a basement door

The opening is 81.5” by 59.25”.

On one side of the opening the top above the door is another 6”. I want to open the door outward at this side.

At the other end of the door the ceiling is at the same height as the door opening out for about 6”. This is due to a drywall box hiding heat ducts.

The door opening is 4” wide.

The room the door is going to close of is going to be a home office.

The door we want is a French door to let the light into the office.

But the 59.25 width is really off of a standard size. If I leave 2” at either end I could fit 2 doors 28” wide.

Can I build a door frame without a top piece and attach the door jam directly to the side of the opening so I could fit in a 80” door or do I try to fit a standard door frame and two 80 by 28” doors and just have a space for 1.5” door moulding on the low side?

Appreciate your thoughts?

Thanks

You loose 2" in the width just for the jam the rough opening would 58" so you would add filler to one or both sides to make it 58" m
I would plan on a full jam and just a couple inches off the jam and doors.
We have also done off size doors that match in looks like, 24" and 32 and just fixed the smaller so it doesn't open.

You have a number of options. With that rough opening, you may be able to fit a standard door or doors. If not, you may be able to be trim a door to fit.

it Isn’t clear to me if your ceiling height on the low side is obstructing the opening. Is that the case?
