My locked us all out of his room (he's not in there), and I can't figure out how to get in.

Here is a picture of the knob/handle and the inside of the knob when I take the handle off. Every other door in the house has a different mechanism that this one. They all have a hole facing out and a spindle inside that can easily be pressed to open the door.

This one is different. There is a small hole on the right side of the handle which presses in the clip you see on the right side. This releases the handle but I still can't unlock the door. I searched videos online but non of them address this type of lock.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Edit: The pics posted have been rotated for some reason. It's been rotated counterclockwise 90. The clip to the right is at the top (not the right) in the photo.

Usually, there would be a slot in the end of the lock shaft in the center of the mechanism. If you can shine a light through the middle, you might see something that looks like the head of a slotted screw. If you do, try turning it with a small screwdriver.

The other possibility is to work the latch tongue back out of the strikeplate, either with an Allen wrench (if it swings out), or just a flat bar or blade (if it swings in).

Usually on a privacy set there is a hole in the middle of the knob to insert a pin to unlock it,right? It does look like a a dummy knob but if it is it shouldn’t have a lock. I don’t know where you are located but are you sure there is a lock and the wood isn’t just swollen from humidity and stuck? Was it a tight fit to begin with?

Turn the lock out to the hallway.

My youngest locked me out of his room at least four times and freaked out every time cause he couldn't get out and couldn't figure out how to turn the knob lock (was the kind you have to push in on the knob and turn at the same time.)

If its a silver lining, my kido got super interested in taking things apart and figuring out how they work shortly after I flipped the knob around and he locked himself out of his room... uhm... maybe also put very kid proof plug cover plates on all the outlets too >.<

What does the bedroom side of the lockset look like? It makes no sense that there would be no way to unlock it from the hall side. If it really has a lock release only on the bedroom side, toss it. It is dangerous and, I believe, against code.

Might not be a bad idea.

Of course, if you can't find a matching handle you might have to replace all the handles in the house, or at least on that floor >.<
