I made something similar to the image below. Only one problem, the liquid isn't coming out. I understand it needs some type of airflow in order for it to actually dispense, but I have no idea how to make that happen. Anyone have any ideas?

I suspect the air is having difficulty transversing the valve area. The air must have a flow path back to the container via the top of the horizontal section of the pipe and the valve you are using may be restricting that path. You might try a full port ball valve. No guarantees as Ive only built self watering hog water'ers of similar principle.
