To take the journeyman exam you need to complete an apprenticeship program or Department-approved equivalent
He said he's just getting started. Everyone has to start somewhere, and the first step is getting experience and working toward journeyman.I don't want to be offending but, the post "sounds fishy".
In order to be a journeyman electrician you need to learn the proper skills hence, apprenticeship. If you skip this essential step you will fail to be a good electrician.
No other "experience" is comparable so if you had any "proper" training you would already know the answer to your question.
