The paint around the window seals in my 1967 home is cracking and flaking in a few spots. The house has wood paneling in pretty much every room but one and one living room wall. I figure it would be unlikely they had white window seals and brown paneling, but you never know.

Should I have it tested? My two year old hasn't had a lead test since he's been mobile, but I could request one. I noticed the severity of the paint cracks this weekend when opening all the blinds and curtains to peek out at the snow :)

I'm still hoping my paneling theory is correct.

Peelstop paint

Zinsser ( and others too) has a primer designed to sort of fill the cracks and glue together a solid undercoat on problem substates. I am not sure it is advised in lead based paint instances, but I would imagine binding it together first and then putting on a quality paint top coat would certainly help keep from creating lead dust in the future. Peelstop is thebzinser product.
