I have a light fixture in a kitchen that was removed by a tenant. I want to replace it with a new fixture but my problem is that the wires in the box have 4 wires. Red, black, white and ground (bare). How do I hook up a light fixture that has only black white and ground?

White to white, ground to ground.

You will have to figure out if the red or black is switched. You will need a volt meter to do this. Turn on the switch and see which one gets power and then put a marrette on the one not being used.

Thanks Darren, that is what I thought but wanted another opinion. Thanks also for the quick reply.
