Yesterday my ceiling fan tripped the breaker when I turned on the light on my bedroom (just the light not the fan blades). When I restored power to the room and turned the swith on again the light would not come on. I replaced the bulbs to rule them out as the issue but no luck. The strangest part is that now when the switch is turned on I hear this clicking sound coming from the fan. Any idea what is causing the lack of power, the clicking noise, and how to fix it? I'll note that the switch next to the light switch that controls the fan blades still works and can turn the fan blades on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Since the fan is still good, something in the lamp wiring has probably shorted out against the housing - perhaps a worn wire or failed connector, maybe because of slight vibrations over time. The clicking may be arcing. The lamp wiring is usually in the centre 'hub' where the lamps are mounted. Make sure the power is off (NOT just the switch) before you go poking around in there.

What is the age of the fan ? If less than 10, I would suspect the wattage limiter.
Do you know the make/model of the fan. The model number is sometimes on a tag on top of the motor housing, particularly on the tradionally shaped fans.

Ok that is the older series of the Bellevue fan. It has been discontinued, which often means the parts are no longer available. However, they have a new series of that fan and there is a good chance the wattage limiter will work. You can call Harbor Breeze at 1-800-643-0067.

The part isn't that hard to change. You drop the light kit. They used to install it up in the neck of the fan where the light kit attaches. It was a small rectangular part, usually grayish or black. Had 3 wires, red, white and blue.
( Some of the mfgs have been moving the part down into the light kit so they can just send a new kit to you. I dont know if Harbor breeze has done that or not)

If you don't want to mess with trying to get it and replacing it, you could pull the fan down, take to the store and complain. The managers at the my local store are pretty loose about replacing things or offering a discount on a similar product
